Butch Harmon Works With Ernie Els

Ernie Els is seeking the help of Butch Harmon.  For the past couple of weeks Butch has been working with Ernie and there may be some light at the end of the tunnel for Els.

Butch has recommended some changes for Ernie, he noted that he is a little too close to the ball and he needs a little more width to his swing.  Els should be in his prime and he needs to win The Masters soon if it is ever going to happen.  Ernie has stated numerously that this is one tournament he dearly wants to win.

The Masters Field

Once again the field at The Masters (95) has only 45 Americans.  This number is not totally accurate as to the true competitors since this number also includes past champions like Ray Floyd who will truly struggle with the length of the course.  The Masters and  the PGA seem to be headed in the same direction as the LPGA and that is most of the players will be foreign.

I am not against these players, I think the most competitive players should be in each field.  The thing that concerns me is that all of the young players in the US that have access to the very best courses and instruction should be able to step up to the challenge.  Most of these young players seem to want only a chance to make a living and enjoy the good life of the tour.  They are not strong enough mentally to compete for the win.  I think more  and more of these young players are going to wake up very soon and find they are not going to have a place to play.  A recent study showed that when Tiger Woods was in the field that the rest of the players played worst than they normally play, are they choking? The good thing about golf is that you get into the tournaments based on your performance not who you are.  If you look at the rosters on many college golf teams they are loaded with kids from around the globe.

What is the answer, could this be the same phoenom that is in the education and business in the US society?
