The Second Day At The Masters

Today is cut day at The Masters, and the projected cut is 2 over par.  Fred Couples will have to have a good day in the second round if he intends to continue his streak (23) of cuts made, Fred opened the tournament with a 4 over 76.  Two of the top players at two over, are Ernie Els and reigning British Open champ Padraig Harrington.

The hardest hole yesterday was 17 the 440 yard par 4, which played to an average score of 4.372.  The easiest hole of the day was also on the back nine, which was number 13 the 510 yard par 5, 4.670.

Last year’s champion Zach Johnson did well in his title defense debut with a two under par 70.  The old guard was represented well by Mark O’Meara who had an opening round of 71.  Mark tied the likes of Retief Goosen and Phil Mickelson.  The foreign contingent was will represented by leaders at 4 under par, Justin Rose and Trevor Immelman.  This is the third year in a row that Justin Rose has led the field after the first round.  The two top players at even par are Tiger Woods and Vijay Singh, and that score leaves them tied for 19th.

Sergio Garcia continues to struggle on the greens and shoots a four over 76.  Sergio has really struggled with his putting.  His best putting lately was when he was using a belly putter.  The longer Sergio battles with these putting woes the harder it will be for him to over come this mental battle.  You can see that with every missed putt it really seems to dig deep into his emotions.
